Nice boot. I had to return them because I needed a half size larger. My foot is size 12 and I needed a 12.5 in this boot. If you are buying hiking boots, they must fit well. It will hurt if your toes hit the front of the boot. (We all know that.)

The service was more than I expected. My order arrived at exactly the time and day described (next day). The boots fit well and are also more than I expected: comfortable and lend great support to my weak ankles. Little to no break-in period was needed. Normally I use an ankle brace with all of my other shoes/boots but, it is not needed when I wear my Scarpa Boots.\r\n I would definitely recommend your service and the Scarpa Barun GTX boots to anyone and everyone. I hope to do more business with you in the future. \r\nSiempre, Arnold Guadalupe

Outstanding boots! Feels broken-in out of the box. This shoe is true to the size no need to readjust for people who wear 1/2 sizes.

Best boot you will ever buy, but make sure you get a 1/2 size larger or try it on before you go. Also Zappos has a great return policy if it does not fit.

This is a very comfortable boot. The soles should hold up for a long time and grip well on the trail. Color is a little light and shows dirt, more than I like. The fifth tie is material and results in more ankle pressure than I like if you lace the boot up tight. If it was a normal tie it would allow more options as for pressure at that point. I used them for over two days straight on the Colorado trail and they held up well.

I originally purchased these in my normal loafer size, which was about one size too small. I would suggest going one size larger than your shoe size as they run small.\r\n\r\nI took these up to Banff, AB after wearing them just for a few days. They required virtually no break-in period and were extremely comfortable for my trip and hikes. The Scarpa\'s kept my feet dry and comfortable and provided superb grip even on the Columbia Icefields. They are probably the best day hiking shoe for people who need smaller sizes.\r\n\r\nI have to compliment Zappos on their customer service. They were able to exchange these for the larger size after I bought the smaller first pair within 3 days, so I had them in plenty of time before my trip.

Second pair of Scarpas. They are a little stiff at first but what a rugged boot. Did some 10-12 mile days in Yellowstone without much of a break-in period and I was surprised how well my feet felt.

I'm getting ready for a Colorado backpack trip and needed some new hiking boots/shoes. I've found Backpacker magazine reviews are always helpful and I took 3 of their recommended shoes to the test: Hi-Tec V-Lite Mach 2, Scarpa Kailash GTX, and Kayland Zephyr. The Hi-Tec shoes were noticeably of lesser quality construction, however, they are cheaper in price than the Scarpa and Kayland. I didn't really like the lacing system. It was hard to make good adjustments on the upper and lower part of the boot independently. My foot is somewhat narrow to medium volume and I found it too big for my foot. I think the boot is better for medium to higher volume feet. The shoe insole/insert is nothing to speak of as it is somewhat thin. I would recommend an aftermarket. I also don't think the boot would be good for carrying more than a 35 pound pack. The soles were also not as sturdy or grippy as the other two boots. It was a much harder choice between the Scarpa and Kayland. I liked the color of the Scarpa as well as the actual shoe lace construction. The insoles are about the same as the Hi-Tec so I would recommend an aftermarket replacement. You can wear these boots comfortably right out of the box due to their partial suede construction. The soles will support comfortably a 40 pound pack, however, they aren't as grippy as the Kayland, not to say the Scarpa traction is not good. It just was slightly lesser than the Kayland. The lower eye-let construction was somewhat of a concern for me. I'm not sure if over time, the ends of the eyelets could break off as they have a pivot to them. Both the Kayland and Scarpa weigh pretty much the same when I weighed them on my scale...1 pound 6 oz per boot. What I liked about the Kayland is the stiffer sole, including its gripping power. It has more gripping points than the Scarpa. The polyurethane skeleton gives the shoe more durability and stability, though it's noticeably a little tighter around the mid-foot than the Scarpa (due to the its suede construction). I feel confident to say the Kayland can support a 50 pound pack weight. The lacing system and eyelets are great as they are linked to the exoskeleton and allow you to easily suck in or loosen the fore foot area to expand its width. I also thought the ankle support is better than the Scarpa. The Scarpa ankle support area flexes easily due to the suede construction. The insoles are a higher quality than the Scarpa. I wouldn't recommend changing them out until you have enough mileage to justify the cost of a replacement. Right now, it's hard to find the Kayland or the Scarpa on the internet. These two boots are definitely of great quality and construction. You decide. Order them both and wear them around your house. I tried them on each evening for about a week before I finally made enough mental notes to reach a final decision.

I have a predecessor to this model, the ZG40 series 3yrs ago. Same last and fit. Scarpa knew they were on to something b/c they've stayed with it. The older ZG40 is not GORE-TEX and almost all leather. This boot is more supportive than it looks. Excellent ankle support (high ankle). Durable, can easily haul med loads. Have covered many miles from west TX desert to CO 14ers. To me it behaves like a med-weight boot but feels like a lightweight. If the sole on my current pair would wear out, I'm getting another pair. I'm a pretty standard size 11 running shoe, I wear med-thick socks and have a medium volume foot, I use a 44 in both pair of Scarpa (the other is an mt/heavy boot) I have.

I'm a lady in my fifties living in Colorado. This is my year to start serious hiking again. I loved the color of these boots. I got a pair for my husband so I knew their quality. I decided to try a pair. I wasn't sure if the men's would be too large. I got what would be equal to a women's size 10. They were incredibly comfortable the first day! Maybe I am unique as I saw no other women's reviews. They aren't too heavy, but have great support! No break in time ~ just like another reviewer stated. The stone & mangrove color looks great. They are true to the color on the site. The size was true. I am BEYOND PLEASED with these Scarpa boots. They are worth the price and should see me backpacking again this summer and out on Colorado trails and in the Tetons by July. You'll love them!

Very comfortable for hiking, mountaineering and walking on rough, rocky ground. I have serious foot deformities and problems (diabetes, charcot foot, neuropathy, arthritis) and needed something with a rigid rocker sole, extreme comfort, no blisters, no break in. The podiatrist recommended, orthopedic footwear, it was more expensive, not as well made and meant for old decrepit folks who don't hike. (Smooth sole). The rocker sole takes a little getting used to for most people, but really supports and cushions the foot and ankle on rough terrain. Backpacker magazine recommends it highly. It is expensive, but well made.

Excellent boot - except... There is a seam or line of stitching inside these boots that runs right up the back of the heel pocket. It absolutely shredded my heels the first time I took these boots out on a real hike. Major blisters on both heels. I consider this a major design flaw. Perhaps for others it will not be so bad? Other than that, I think these boots are quite nice - that's why I'm particularly disappointed. I had high hopes for these boots.

Surprise! Lost among a sea of choices and reviews, I didn't know where to turn as I looked for a new pair of hiking shoes. Too many shoes that I took off the shelf felt like cement blocks. I was wearing out a pair of Rockports. A pair of Vasque Sundowners, they were handsome shoes, but heavy and stiff and I just couldn't seem to break them in and reach a degree of real comfort. Then an acquaintance, just getting into hiking, recommended Scarpa's which he had happened upon at random. Not certain whether I needed a size 8 or an 8.5, I ordered both sizes from Zappos. The 8 was too tight-fitting, but the 8.5 was as close to perfect as I could imagine in a hiking shoe. Snug, but not tight; stable, but not stiff; light-weight, but rugged at the same time. I like the lacing - no crimping behind the toes. The appearance? The color is okay and well, after all, these are hiking shoes and not fancy loafers. Hear me for Scarpas! The style I have is the Kailash (named for a sacred and therefore unscaled mountain in the Himalayas).

Great fit. I first got the Kayland Zephyr and really like the look of them but the toes got too narrow and hurt my feet, I had never had a problem like that before. I've heard so much about the Kailash that I tried it and I'm glad I did. Feel and fit are excellent. I've been very pleased with this boot and highly recommend it.

Great medium weight backpacking boots - I read a review in Backpacker magazine that the Scarpa Kailash boots were the best and they were right. I was a great fan of Vasque Sundowners, but they no longer make a narrow boot, what a shame. I have done Scouting for years and cannot tell you how many endorsements I have made for Sundowners, but no more. The Scarpa Kailish's were comfortable right out of the box and very stable. They have become my go to boot and I am going to be happy to promote these boots to the hundreds of Scouts and Scouters I make hiking/backpacking presentations to. Zappos is the best for ordering shoes, if you have already tried them on before and know what you are looking for, avoids sending the shoes/boots back if they don't fit. I have ordered a number of shoes from Zappos and have always been satisfied with their customer service.

Initially seemed good - I got these, 2 Asolos (Fugitive and TPS 520), and the Montrail Torres. After just trying them on and walking around the house, these are definitely the best fit. The heel slips a little for me, but when I put in my Superfeet from my running shoes, the slippage becomes very minimal. Someone else commented that this shoe was especially narrow. It actually squeezes my pinky toe less than the Asolos or Montrails. I wear a 12 ½ running shoe, and the 13 for this boot seems to fit. Zappos ran out of the 12 ½, so I wasn't able to try it. Perhaps it would fix the heel slippage without the Superfeet.

Quality boot. After two weeks I think this is a great boot. A couple of days to break in but are getting more comfortable by the day. They are light weight but provide good support with my 40# pack. Quality is top notch and fit is true to size. My only complaint is I would like more arch support but I plan to try some superfeet insoles. All in all a great boot.

Nice shoe! These shoes have a nice, aggressive, grippy tread and cool style. I was torn between these and the 5.10 Guide Tennies. They were very comfortable, except for in the toe box. I decided to return these because after testing them out in the house, they were pressing down on my toes. If the toe box were just a bit higher, they'd be perfect...

Out-of-the-box comfort - I wore these boots to work several times to break them in, but it proved unnecessary; there were no hot spots and they just felt good all day from the first time I wore them. Lightweight, yet supportive enough to handle cross-country backpacking trips with a thirty-pound pack.

My first pair of Uggs and the most expensive boot Ive ever purchased. LOVE shoes, but really know how to bargain shop to get what I want inexpensively. Boots fit great, no breaking in needed. Warm and cozy. First pair of boots Ive ever owned that didnt need a couple wears to feel comfortable.

Not for me - After reading the reviews, how could I not want to buy this shoe? Well, I think for the price, you can get much better for less money. Did not like the break in at all! Still not fully broken in 12 days later wearing them 8 to 10 hours a day. Shoe was also very narrow, a toe jammer for a person who has never needed a wide width shoe. Just my opinion, but I think a better shoe would be North Face, Asolo, or Vasque.

Beauty is painful - These boots are absolutely beautiful looking, BUT, BUT, BUT they are so heavy I hardly ever wear them. I work outdoors in the rural countryside, but I cannot wait to get these off at the end of the day. Its like having 2 weights on your feet. Therefore, I do not find myself wearing these often because they are just too heavy. They have good support and look nice, but I would never do a long hike in these.

Great mid-weight hiker. I ordered these boots from magazine recommendations and am very happy with my purchase. I did replace the manufactures insole with a green REI insole cut to size which seemed to give my instep a little better support. Break in consisted of wearing them two days at work and two short day hikes close to home. They worked extremely well while carrying a 40 pound pack on a 18 mile loop hike in the Wind River Mountain range in both wet and dry conditions. There was no heel slip, no hot spots, and no blisters. The sole seemed to slip a bit on very wet granite, but otherwise this is a solid and lightweight boot I would recommend for someone carrying a medium weight load.
